La Feile Padraig!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yesterday Rich and I spoke at the 2009 Yarn Market News Conference at the historic Allerton Hotel in Chicago.  We presented our brand new program, “ReImagine, ReCreate & ReInvent Your Retail Store!” for the very first time.  It’s definitely a keeper!

Yarn shop retailers have the best clothes and accessories.  And it’s intimidating to be in a room full of them, knowing that they made each of their intricate garments by all by themselves with only yarn, knitting needles and a whole bunch of talent.  Seriously, the Fashionistas in NYC could learn a lot from these multi-talented retailers.

This afternoon the YMN team is hosting a Yarn Crawl with stops at select yarn stores all over Chicagoland.  The Yarn Crawl culminates at the Woolly Lamb Yarn Studio with a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and a fashion show by Maggie Jackson.  Maggie is an award-winning international knitwear designer and author of Maggie's Ireland. Turns out Maggie, Rich and I have many mutual friends, which is cool.

My daughter Kate (and avid knitter herself) and I are meeting the Yarn Crawlers at the Woolly Lamb for the fashion and festivities. And tomorrow I will be frustrated with the fact that simple, one-stitch scarf-making is destined to be the highlight of my knitting career.  Fortunately, I am blessed with the ability to quickly move on.  All it takes is a Shamrock Shake and couple dozen green Hostess Sno Balls to get me back on track. You know what we always say: FOOD IS GOOD!

And so, on this St. Patrick's day,

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

Slainte!
