According to Business Week's "The Pet Economy" we Americans spend big bucks on our pets:
Pets: $41 billion
Video Games: $11.6 billion
Movies: 10.8 billion
Music: $10.6 billion

Every retailer can sell something that's related to pets. And you can certainly hold a "Santa Paws" day so pet owners can bring Fluffy for a photo on Santa's lap. Charge $5.95, donate $1.00 to your local animal shelter and you're still making a handy profit.
