We drove through historic Delafield, Wisconsin today and stopped in at the Lang Store on Wells Street. What really caught our eye was the scarecrow on the store's front steps. Turns out, the Lang Store scarecrow was a depiction of Mrs. Amanda Thompson, principal of Cushing Elementary School, located just down the street from the store. And Mrs. Amanda Thompson's doppelganger was not alone; other scarecrows representing Cushing Elementary could be found at other Delafield establishments.
The Lang Store associate who gave us the scoop on the scarecrows invited us back on Saturday to attend Delafield's Grand Pumpkin Illumination and Ghost Stories Event, sponsored by their Chamber of Commerce. During this event, kids dress up in the Halloween costumes and Trick or Treat at designated shops in the historic downtown area; followed by Ghost Stories at the Delafield Public Library. And in-between, everyone comes out to see the hundreds carved pumpkins on display in front of area businesses. Each pumpkin has been carved by a local child; and businesses like the Lang Store, illuminate them with Christmas lights.
Isn't that cool? It sounds like so much fun we just might have to go back on Saturday. What's your downtown or mall or street or shopping center doing to attract shoppers this Halloween? And if your downtown or mall or street or shopping center is doing something this Halloween, will you participate?
