Zappos.com, the wildly successful on-line shoe retailer, is planning its second annual Zappos.com Las Vegas Marathon on December 2, but this isn’t just any old marathon!
Last year was its inaugural year, and it was a good one. 12,000 competitors ran through the streets of Las Vegas. Along with famous Vegas attractions, the event featured lasers, milk and cookies, and Santa Claus. Plus, 22 couples got married or renewed their vows on live television at the Mile 5 Run Thru Wedding Chapel. The highlight, other than 2.5 million bucks you'd receive if you broke the world record for the fastest time, was the Jogging Elvises.
This year Zappos.com is embracing the King by trying to establish a world record of 101 Elvi. Among the Elvi requirements on the official website: “Be ready to stop and cheer on the other runners, sing Elvis tunes at the top of your lungs and make an effort to finish the half marathon in 2:15 or the full in 5:00 hours. And if you don’t, it’s ok because Elvis is never in a hurry, ya know?” and “Work on your best “thank you very much” Elvis impersonation. You’re gonna need it.” Visit http://www.lvmarathon.com/Elvis.481.0.html for all the details.
