
We're getting ready for the Memorytrends Conference & Expo, September 18 -- 20, in fabulous Las Vegas. One of our programs is our first ever "Meet the Millennials" LIVE Focus Group on Wednesday, September 19. The Millennials are a mercurial bunch. They were digital in diapers and the trend continues. Check this out:
• 54% of bloggers are under the age of 30.
• 19% of internet users age 12-17 keep a blog & 38% of online teens read blogs.
• Among internet-using teens, 57% (or 50% of all teens, roughly 12 million youth) are what might be called Content Creators. They reporthaving done one or more of the following content-creating activities: create a blog; create a personal webpage; create a webpage for school, a friend, or an organization; share original content they created themselves online; or remix content found online into a new creation. Specifically:
• 33% of online teens share their own creations online, such as artwork, photos, stories, or videos.
• 32% of online teens say that they have created or worked on webpages or blogs for others, including those for groups they belong to, friends or school assignments.
• 22% of online teens report keeping their own personal webpage.
• Older girls ages 15-17 are the most likely to blog; 25% of online girls in this age group keep a blog, compared with 15% of older boys who are online. About 18% of younger teens of both sexes blog.
• About one in five internet-using teens (19%) says they remix content they find online into their own artistic creations.
• 51% of online teens say they download music files from the internet
• Internet users ages 12 to 28 years old have embraced the online applications that enable communicative, creative, and social uses. Teens and Millennials (age 18-28) are significantly more likely than older users to send and receive instant messages, play online games, create blogs, download music, and search for school information.
