Ruth Furman
The former reporter moved to Las Vegas from Chicago in 1999.
"I felt there was a lot of room in this market for me," she said.
The sole proprietor said she's always open to the idea of growth, but loves her different roles working as both a full-service agency and an outgrowth of the internal PR of larger companies.
"I like to have an intimate relationship with my clients," she said. "As a sole proprietor I have to be very selective about the types of clients I take on."
She said she works mainly from referrals, and employs freelancers to help out with some of the workload. And she gets her inspiration from her husband, who left a high-paid job as a commodities trader to work in the sports book at the Excalibur after getting burned out.
"He plants himself where he will bloom," Furman said.
As far as professional inspiration, Furman takes a page of the matchmaker's book. She's built her reputation on connecting people to one another - whether it's a reporter to a story or a client to a PR firm that's a better fit. She's even made one successful love match that ended up in a marriage.
"You've got to be a really good salesperson and hone a gift for connecting people," she said.
