* Do you watch the birth announcements in your community and send a handwritten note to the new parents, along with a packet of information about your store and a money-saving coupon?
* Did you know that almost every hospital sends new moms home with a gift basket that's filled with items from local businesses? Is your store one those local businesses?
* Have you started a "New Mommy Club" in your store where new moms can take a break from baby, and get together to crop or craft in your store?
We know a retailer who replaced a block of concrete in the front of her store and invited kids to put their hand prints in the cement ala Grumman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Kids of all ages participated. The cool thing is that every year the families stop in to see how much the kids' hands have grown. And of course, the retailer sends out a post card each year to remind them. She also plans an in-store event to commorate the day. So maybe you can't tear up the concrete in front of your store? Could you do something similar on a big piece of fabric? Or how about a wall? Use your imagination -- and brainstorm with your store associates -- and come up with new ways to attract families to your store!
