It's raining Reindeer Bucks!

This wonderful sales and traffic-building idea comes from Cathy Beaty, owner of Cat's Creations Scrapbooks & More in Mineral Wells, Texas. Cathy is known as "Cat", well not just Cat -- Cat! -- with an explanation point. We love that, and we love Reindeer Bucks, the promotion Cat! has created for the month of December:

Customers receive one $1 Reindeer Buck for every $20 they spend during the month of December. (Cat! created her Reindeer Bucks on her computer.) All Reindeer Bucks issued must be redeemed in the month of January 2006 -- each Reindeer Buck is worth one dollar.

Cat! knows that when your store is busy, that's the time to do something that will get customers thinking about coming back in January, when things tend to slow down a bit. This is the first time Cat! is running Reindeer Bucks in her store.

Cat! is also running our Bounce Back Bag Sale on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and our Cash Register Receipt Auction in mid-December.

Have you run an event similar to Reindeer Bucks in your store? Maybe you have some tips that will help make a good event even better ...

I decided I had better get back to you on how this worked. It was GREAT! Customers came in all day with their bags and were filling them up. I ran a special from 4-6pm for the "Slow Pokes" and that brought in another large crowd of shoppers that wanted to hit that extra %off. They loved the time because they had hit Wal-Mart and Sears and still were able to get a good deal at my store later. The coupons on the bag were for Dec 1-15, Dec 16-31 and Jan 1-15. They have already come back to use their coupons and some have had to tape up their bags with packing tape! Hope all went well for everyone. Cat!
