Advice for Laurie on Paying Teachers - One way is to pay per head such as $2.50 - $5 plus a standing discount in the store - say 10-15 %. Another way can be a percent on sales from that class but this can work both ways - the teacher has incentives to push products in class and gets a really great check at the end - If you have a $1000 day and give them a 5-10 % of sales that's $50-100 for them and usually they will turn around and spend it in your store.

I personally use the $/per head plus standing discount. And that seems to keep them happy.

  2. We pay teachers $10 per student per class. They do the prep for the class including the demo board, kitting the materials, set up and clean up for the class.

We also pay $10 per student and the teacher is responsible for prepping, kitting, cleanup. This is for nonstaff teachers. Staff teachers get paid their normal wage (including getting paid for work done at home prepping).

Unfortunately I teach most of my classes and get paid Zippo. Classes are not always making it here so paying someone else would not work for me. I will run a class with only 1-2 people since it is only my time. That has helped build them somewhat. Sports and holidays have put a small halt to some of my classes. Cat!
